Robotics Club
  • All WHS students are eligible and encouraged to participate in after-school clubs and activities.    

    There is a $150 Activity Fee that all students must pay to join a club/activity.  The one-time fee allows students to sign up for and participate in multiple clubs/activities (not including athletics).  Fees must be paid online using City Hall Systems.  Here are the instructions on how to pay:


    City Hall Systems Payment Process

    1. Log onto https://epay.cityhallsystems.com/

    2. Enter your municipality as "Winthrop, MA."


    3. Select “School Department” in the left side menu, and then choose "High School Activities."


    4. Fill out the necessary information when you see the screenshot below, Add to Cart, and pay the fee. (You will have to repeat this process if you have more than one student.)

    The yearbook club creates, designs, edits and sells our school’s Echo yearbook. Students have the opportunity to learn skills in advertising and marketing as well as photography and graphic design. Students will use a variety  of technology tools to join together and create a memorable book that highlights the many achievements of the school community. 

    The Viking Times

    The Viking Times is Winthrop High School's student- run newspaper. We cover both local and world news, as well as all things art, sports, music, opinion, etc. Students get the opportunity to hone in on nonfiction writing skills while meeting new people and getting involved in the community. 

    Math Club

    Math Club meets bimonthly to engage in practice contests, calculator tutorials, math tutoring, and discussion about various mathematical topics! Members will also compete at contest meetings (at WHS).

    The Winthrop High School Drama Society is for any student interested in being on stage or behind the scenes. We offer multiple performance and technical opportunities.     Model UN Club

    Model United Nations (Model UN) is an extracurricular activity where students roleplay as delegates of countries in a simulated United Nations General Assembly to discuss and find solutions to global issues, such as climate change or human rights. Participants research real-world topics from the perspective of their assigned country, write resolutions, engage in diplomacy and debate, and vote on them to develop official recommendations for solving problems. The goal is to develop students' public speaking, teamwork, critical thinking, and negotiation skills while promoting understanding of international relations and the functions of the actual United Nations.  It meets weekly and aims to travel to two conferences per year.

           

    Digital Media & Wake Up Winthrop Club

    The digital media club meets Thursdays after school in room 313. The digital media club is an opportunity for students to discover, explore and use the various digital media technologies the school has to offer. Students will be able to help with Wake Up Winthrop, borrow and use the camera equipment and work on personal projects.

    Robotics Club

    Club members prepare for the national robotics competition organized by KISS Institute of Practical Robotics. In the process they have the opportunity to learn hardware, coding, and develop collaboration and leadership skills as they assemble robots.  Students will also participate in fund raising and volunteering which is  part of the competition. The club will tentatively meet once a week on Thursdays after school

    Multicultural Club

    The Multicultural Club aims to promote cultural awareness and appreciation in diversity, as well as encouraging unity among students. We  meet every Wednesday in room 126 starting at 2:05 PM. Our club will organize events and celebrations that highlight various cultural heritages, such as fashion shows, food fairs, movie nights, and many more. We look forward to collaborating with other clubs to raise cultural awareness across the campus!

    Health and Wellness Club

    The goal of the Health and Wellness Club is to provide a supportive environment where participants can prioritize their mental and physical well-being. This club will meet every other week, on Thursdays, for 45 minutes and offer a variety of activities designed to reduce stress, increase mindfulness, and promote overall health.

    This club is for people interested in science and engineering. We will do experiments, discuss scientific topics, and prepare for the Science Olympiad competition in the spring.
